The Rewards That Last
"For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is God’s gift, not from works, so that no one can boast." – Ephesians 2:8-9
We live in a world that loves rewards. We chase promotions at work, trophies in sports, and recognition from people around us. But Scripture points us to rewards that are so much better than anything this world can offer.
The New Testament makes it clear that God wants to reward His people in eternity. There is the crown of righteousness for those who long for Christ to return. There is the crown of life for those who persevere through trials. There is the crown of glory for leaders who shepherd God’s people with faithfulness. There is the incorruptible crown for those who walk in self-discipline and godly integrity. There is the crown of rejoicing for those who share the gospel and lead others to Jesus.
Jesus also talks about treasures in heaven. He tells us to store up treasures that last, not things that fade away or break down. 1 Corinthians reminds us that each believer will even receive praise from God.
So why does this matter today? Because how you live right now shapes what will last forever. This is not about earning your way to heaven. Ephesians 2 makes it clear that we are saved by grace through faith. Salvation is a gift, not something we can achieve through our own effort. But once you are saved, the life you live in response to that grace matters deeply.
Are you living for what matters today? Are you longing for Christ and walking in perseverance? Are you leading others with faithfulness and pointing people toward the gospel? Are you living with integrity when no one is watching?
What you do with Jesus today shapes what Jesus will do with you tomorrow. One day, you will stand before Him. One day, your faithfulness will be seen and rewarded. Let that truth shape your choices right now. Live today in a way that stores up treasure in heaven. Live today with your eyes on what lasts.
