Step 5: Carry Everything to God in Prayer
"But in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus." - Philippians 4:6-7
Have you ever caught yourself saying something like, “I don’t want to bother God with this”? Maybe you’re good at bringing the big stuff to Him when life hits hard or the bottom drops out. But what about the day-to-day stuff? The small worries and frustrations? Sometimes it feels like those things are too minor to bring before a holy God.
What you'll see in Philippians 5 is that Paul comes along and flips that mindset on its head. He says to pray about everything. Not just the emergencies. Not just the life-altering decisions. Everything. That tells me something about the kind of relationship God wants with us. He’s not just looking to be your crisis counselor. He wants to walk with you in the middle of your ordinary too.
The more you carry to Him, the less you carry alone. That’s what transforms your thought life. Prayer is the exchange where your anxiety gets traded for God’s peace. You present your requests to Him, and He shows up with a kind of peace that doesn’t make sense to the world. A peace that steadies your thoughts and guards your mind.
And let’s be honest, most of our worry starts in the little things anyway. It builds up slowly, almost unnoticeably, until it owns our headspace. But if we train ourselves to pray first and worry less, everything changes.
Maybe today is the reminder you need. If it matters to you, it matters to Him. Don’t wait until the burden is unbearable. Give it to Him as it comes. Lay it all down, big or small, and let the peace of God start building a wall around your mind. One prayer at a time.
