When Your Soul Leads the Way

“For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift.” - Ephesians 2:8

C.S. Lewis once said, “You’re not a body with a soul. You’re a soul with a body.” That flips the way most people think about life. We spend so much time worrying about the outside: our bodies, our schedules, our image. But God has a different focus. He looks deeper. He’s paying attention to your soul.

According to Scripture, the soul is the core of who you are. And one day, Jesus will examine your life and look for a heart that is sound and blameless, a soul that is free from corruption and full of His Spirit. That kind of spiritual health does not happen by accident. It begins with grace and grows through surrender.

A healthy soul is one that is saved. It all starts there. You cannot be spiritually strong without first receiving the gift of salvation. Paul reminds us in Ephesians that we are saved by grace through faith. Not by effort, not by performance, but by grace alone.

A healthy soul is also sanctified. That means God is not done with you. He is working in you daily, shaping you to look more like Jesus. If you're truly walking with Him, you should see some growth. You should be changing.

And not only are we saved and sanctified, we are set apart. In 2 Timothy, Paul says those who purify themselves from dishonorable things become useful to the Master. When you prioritize your soul, you become ready for what God has called you to do.

Finally, a healthy soul is satisfied. Jesus said in Matthew 5 that those who hunger and thirst for righteousness will be satisfied. Your soul finds rest not in performance, not in success, but in Jesus alone.

So, how’s your soul today? If the body and the mind are getting all the attention but the soul is being ignored, you will feel off-balance. If you want your life to magnify Christ, it starts by letting your soul lead the way. A healthy soul reflects a holy Savior.
