Don’t Take the First Step
“But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” – Matthew 5:28
Sin never feels like a big deal at first. You think it’s just a glance. Just a thought. Just a moment. But before you know it, you’re ten steps down a path you never meant to take, asking yourself, “How did I get here?”
Jesus already told us the answer. Adultery doesn’t begin in a bedroom. It begins in your head. And lust doesn’t start out loud. It starts in the silence of a sinful heart. It grows in the places you don’t surrender to God. You can’t walk away from adultery until you deal with the lust. And you can’t deal with lust until you deal with the sin at the root.
That’s why God doesn’t just call us to avoid sin. He calls us to cut it off at the root. Paul said to “flee from sexual immorality.” Not flirt with it. Not get as close as you can without crossing the line. Get away from it. Treat it like a fire you’re not equipped to handle. Because you’re not.
The Bible isn’t vague about how to avoid this kind of sin. It says guard your eyes. Train your mind. Renew your heart. Walk in step with the Spirit so you won’t gratify the desires of the flesh. It’s about heart transformation. You don’t need more willpower. You need a clean heart and a renewed mind.
If you’re struggling in this area, the solution isn’t just to feel bad about it. It’s to get serious about it. Confess it. Repent of it. Put distance between you and the temptation. Let God begin healing what you’ve tried to hide. You don’t have to end up where the devil wants to take you. But you do have to choose a different road before you get too far down his.
