When the Storm Lingers
"But he who listens to me shall dwell secure and will be at ease, without dread of disaster" – Proverbs 1:33.
Sometimes the storms in our lives do not pass quickly. Sometimes they linger. The sky stays gray, the winds keep pounding, and you start wondering how long you’ll have to keep holding on. It’s one thing to have deep roots when a storm hits suddenly and leaves just as fast. It’s another to stay rooted when it doesn’t let up. That’s when your faith is truly tested.
We like the idea of being strong. Of standing tall through adversity. But most of us are more eager to be delivered than developed. We ask God to remove the storm rather than asking Him to strengthen our grip. We want peace around us, but God is more concerned about the peace within us. And that kind of peace is only found in trust. Not in circumstances. Not in outcomes. Just trust.
Trust says, “Even when I can’t see the sun, I know it’s still there.” Trust says, “Even when I don’t understand what God is doing, I believe He is still good.” Trust doesn’t always feel strong. Sometimes it’s just choosing not to walk away. Choosing to keep showing up. Choosing to stay in the fight when it would be easier to quit.
Jesus never promised a life without storms. But He did promise to be your shelter in the middle of one. He did promise to never leave or forsake you. He did promise that He is working all things together for the good of those who love Him. Not all things will be good. But all things will be used for good. That includes the storm you're in right now.
You might feel weak. You might feel like your grip is slipping. But if you’ve built your life on the truth of God's Word, you are stronger than you think. The same God who brought you this far is the same God who will carry you through. You don’t have to see the end of the storm to trust the One who speaks to it.
Hold fast. The roots you are growing now will carry you long after this storm is gone.
