Rescued From Fear

“The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, ‘Abba, Father.’” – Romans 8:15

Fear is real. It is something that we have all experienced. In fact, doctors have identified over 700 known phobias or fears. For example, Acrophobia is the fear of high places. Claustrophobia is the fear of enclosed areas. Ergophobia is the fear of work. Gamophobia is the fear of marriage.

Fear is something that we all deal with no matter who you are or what stage of life you are in. It has been said that children have the fear of being alone. Adolescents have the fear of rejection. Young adults have a fear of failure. Older adults have a fear of death or living a life without meaning.

The reason this is important is that when fear consumes and controls us, we become defeated and unable to live the victorious life we should be living through Christ. In fact, in Romans 8:15, Paul equates our unhealthy fears to slavery: “For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear” (Romans 8:15).

God says, “I have not given you a spirit that makes you feel like a slave to your fear. If that is the way you feel, understand that did not come from Me!”

I love what the Psalmist said in Psalm 34, “I sought the Lord, and He answered me and rescued me from all of my fears.” That is what God wants to do for us. He wants to rescue us. He wants to deliver us from our fears! So with that being said, the question is… “What are you so afraid of?” Seriously, what are the fears that consume and control you?

Whatever it is, it is not from God. Paul tells us, that Christ didn’t give us a spirit of fear. God does not desire that you live your life in fear; that is against His Will! Whatever it is that you are fearful of, God wants to rescue you from your fear, today!
