The Great Exchange

“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:7

When I was a kid, all the boys in the neighborhood would get together in the summer and have BB gun wars. This was way before airsoft guns or paintball battles. I do not recommend this at all. My brother to this day has a BB stuck in his head.

We realized real quick that fighting with BB guns was pretty dangerous and it hurt really bad. So we decided to begin wearing pads and protective gear. I can remember wearing a heavy winter coat when it was 100 degrees outside, and I also had the best headgear out of everyone on the entire block. It was a motorcycle helmet and I’m pretty sure the face mask was shatterproof.

When I was wearing that helmet and I had that face mask, BB gun wars did not scare me at all! I felt invincible! Any worry I had before was gone. I felt peace in the midst of battle.

That is the feeling we should have when we give our worry to God. He says we can exchange our WORRY for PEACE. And when we make that exchange, peace will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

We learned a few days ago that worry pulls us apart. But peace will put you back together. When you read Philippians 4:6-7, you see that it starts with anxiety and worry but concludes with peace. And it is prayer that makes that transition possible. Prayer is the formula for escaping the cage of worry.

Do you want to quit worrying? Pray about everything that worries you. Give it to God, let it be His burden. And then enjoy the peace that will guard your heart and mind!
