He Will Give You Rest

“As for me, I call to God, and the Lord saves me.” Psalm 55:16

Yesterday, we talked about how God wants to help you when you face the stresses of life. When you cry out to God, He hears you. Not only does He hear you, but He is ready to help you. He doesn’t want to suppress your stress; He wants to address your stress. And God’s solution for addressing your stress comes by way of an invitation.

Jesus said in Matthew 11:28, “Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” In other words, you can’t just stay where you are and expect to experience relief in your life. You can’t just keep doing what you are doing and expect a different result.

Jesus said, “The solution to your stress is going to begin with a step of faith.” He said, COME TO ME. And what will be the result? Jesus will give you rest. When I think about what it is to be stressed out, I would have to say the opposite of stressed-out is rested up. Stressed out people don’t rest well. They don’t sleep well.

When you lay down in bed and it gets quiet, does the stress in your life get louder? When you’re stressed out and laying down at night, is your brain incapable of shutting off? Maybe you cannot stop thinking about the chaos you’re surrounded by.

When you find yourself in this situation, God wants you to take a step of faith. His invitation is for you to rest. God’s remedy for stress is God, Himself. He offers a way out, even when it looks as if you’ll be imprisoned forever; He gives you what you need in order to escape the cage of stress.

Psalm 55:16 tells us all we need, “As for me, I call to God. and the Lord saves me.” Call on the name of the Lord. If you are weary and burdened, He will give you rest!
