“Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:7
Do you want to fulfill the purpose God has designed for you? Do you want to live out His calling for your life? We have learned the last few days that if you want to leave a legacy, one that is told long after you have passed away, then it is going to take a strong faith.
But it is more than just faith that creates this legacy. For Joshua, it was strength and courage that he needed when the moment came for him to lead. The Lord told Joshua this not once but TWICE in a matter of three verses.
In Joshua 1:7 the Lord says, “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go.”
Then two verses later in verse 9 He says, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
See, God knew that Joshua was going to lead His chosen people into the promised land. He was going to do something that had been promised to Abraham over four hundred years ago. It was going to be pretty special. But it was also going to require strength and courage.
If you want to watch God do special things in your life, you too must be filled with strength and courage. If God is going to take you places you have never been, you are going to have to do things you have never done. This can be uncomfortable at first. But this is why He commands you, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you WHEREVER YOU GO!”
