Fishers of Men

“Jesus called out to them, ‘Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!’ And they left their nets at once and followed Him.” – Matthew 4:19-20

I’ve met a lot of people in my who that claim to be disciples of Jesus Christ. People from all walks of life say, “I’m a disciple of Jesus.” People with all kinds of beliefs about God even say they are disciples.

The word “disciple” is common language in our culture, and especially within the church, but the truth is, many people are claiming that title in their life today, and yet, many have no idea what it really means. They don’t understand what is really required to be a true disciple of Jesus.

When you look at Matthew 4, you see an instance where Jesus is walking along the shores of the Sea of Galilee doing what He does best…making disciples!

Matthew 4:18-20 tells it this way, “One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers—Simon, also called Peter, and Andrew—throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a living. Jesus called out to them, ‘Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!’ And they left their nets at once and followed Him.”

As believers and committed followers, Jesus calls us to be disciples. He told Peter and Andrew to come follow Him so they could become “fishers of men.” When you make the decision to give your life to Christ, the journey does not stop there.

Not only does God want you to grow in your faith and personal relationship with Him, but He wants you to spread the story of what God has done for you so that others can experience the same love and grace you have!

When is the last time you “fished for men?” Don’t keep the love of the Lord to yourself! Let others experience the amazing grace you have and continue to receive!
