A Call To Serve

“Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes or powerful or wealthy when God called you. Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful.” – 1 Corinthians 1:26-27

The call to follow Jesus is a call to serve. You may be asking, “What can I do? How can I serve? I don’t have much to offer.” Well, guess what? You’re exactly the kind of person God’s looking for. God loves using unqualified people to accomplish supernatural things.

In 1 Corinthians, Paul is writing to people having those same thoughts of being unqualified and unusable. And look what he tells them beginning in verse 26, “Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes or powerful or wealthy when God called you. Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful. God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing that the world considers important. As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God.”

Now he doesn’t say that God doesn’t call or use “any wise” or “any powerful” or “any of noble birth.” But rather he says God doesn’t call “many wise… many powerful… or many of noble birth.”

Don’t miss this, my friend. God uses the weak rather than the strong, the foolish rather than the wise. And we are told why in verse 29, “As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God.” God uses ordinary people in extraordinary ways so that at the end of the day, He gets the glory!

Whatever your talent and gifts are, if you turn them over to Him, He will use you. Like the four fishermen, be teachable and trainable and watch God transform your life. And as a disciple of Jesus, He’ll not only transform your life…but He’ll use your life to fulfill His purpose and build His Kingdom!
