The GREAT Shepherd

“Now may the God peace— who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep, and ratified an eternal covenant with his blood— may he equip you with all you need for doing his will. May he produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to him. All glory to him forever and ever! Amen.” – Hebrews 13:20-21

Now, if it’s His redemption that makes Jesus our Good Shepherd, I want you to notice here that it is His resurrection that makes Him our Great Shepherd. Hebrews 13:20-21 says, Now may the God peace— who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep, and ratified an eternal covenant with his blood— may he equip you with all you need for doing his will…”

Read that again, “Now may the God of peace, who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus…”

May I ask you a personal question: are you worried today? Is there something in your life that has driven you to worry or be anxious? You might say, “I’m really worried about _______ (just fill in the blank) “I’m really worried about my health… finances… being accepted into college… my children… my aging parents…”

Are you worried about something today? Then let me ask you this: Are you a child of God? Has your life been changed through a relationship with Jesus? Are you not now “more than conquerors through Him who loves us?” It says in Romans 8:37, “No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.”

If you are one of His sheep, then that overwhelming victory is yours. You can claim it, today! He is the GREAT Shepherd because He not only redeemed us, but it was through His resurrection that He overcame the sin of the world. His victory is your victory, and that is what makes Him the Great Shepherd!
