Here… NOW

“May He equip you with all you need for doing His will. May He produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to Him. All glory to Him forever and ever! Amen.” – Hebrews 13:21

Yesterday, we asked the question, “Are you a disciple?” The word “disciple” is one we have been talking about for close to a week now. Many people toss the word around and claim to be one. But yesterday we asked the true, hard questions of what it truly means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ.

At the end of yesterday’s devotion, we concluded with the question, “Are you ready to give your life to Christ? Not just eternally, but here on earth as well?” What does this mean: “not just eternally, but here on earth”?

When we think of “giving our life to Christ,” we often think first in the realm of eternity. We think of the decision we make when we accept Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior because He died for our sins and overcame the grave. For many, they think of what this means in the big picture: we go to heaven and escape hell.

And while this is a major part of “giving our life to Christ,” it does not end there. See, giving your life to Jesus is not just about the enteral, but it’s also about the now. Jesus wants you to be a disciple for Him, not just to influence others’ decisions of eternity, but to become more like Him here on earth.

And He wants you to lead others on the same path! Heaven will be an amazing place. It will be greater than anything we could ever possibly imagine. But your relationship with Christ is not just about eternity, God wants your commitment HERE…NOW!

When He says “Follow me,” He isn’t just saying into the gates of Heaven. He is saying, follow me, today. Follow me here…NOW.
