Relationships

“Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” – Matthew 22:37-39

As we continue to look at things that could potentially steal our hearts, we come to one that might give us more trouble than anything else: relationships. The original question we asked several days ago was, WHO or WHAT has your heart? In other words, who or what is more important to you, shown through your thoughts, time, and resources, than God?

We have looked at a lot of “what’s” but today, we look at “who.” WHO has your heart? Many believers while they are single pray for God to send them the person they will marry. They want to be with the one whom the Lord has chosen for them. But the problem comes after He reveals that person. So many believers, after getting what they want, turn from God. They wanted the gift, but not the Giver.

Even if God intended for you to marry the person He put in your life, it does not mean they should be placed above Him. Matthew 22:37-39 tells us, Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”

The FIRST and GREATEST commandment is to love the Lord your God. THEN, it is to love your neighbor as yourself. So many people get this backwards. They love the people in their lives more than they love God. And as we have stated the last few days, you might express verbally, “Pastor, I do not love anyone or anything above God.”

This is easy to say, especially when we know that He should be our priority. But do our actions back up that verbal expression? Do your thoughts reveal that God is your priority? Does the way you spend your time reveal that God is your priority? Do the resources you invest in reveal that God is your priority?

I promise you, my friend, when you place God first in your life, ALL of your relationships will be better for it!
