Why Have You Forsaken Me?

“And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, ‘Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” – Matthew 27:46

Do you feel like God has abandoned you? Are you going through something in life, and you feel like God is just nowhere to be found? Maybe you are waiting for an answer or clarification on a big decision you need to make. You ask Him to reveal what you need to do, and you get nothing but crickets chirping.

Even Jesus was wondering where God was when He prayed on the cross. Matthew 27:46 tells us exactly what Jesus said right before He died, And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, ‘Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

And just like Jesus then, God has not abandoned you. He might be silent for a moment, but He is still working in your life. He was working in Jesus’ situation, and He is working in yours. You might not see it at the moment, but you will. When God is silent, that means He is working.

God knows everything about what is going on in your life. He has His hand in all of it. When you give your life to God, He takes the reins. It’s not that He takes your free will, but He does orchestrate things in your life for His purpose. As a believer, God is always with you. He will never leave you nor forsake you.

No matter how silent He is seeming to be, Your Heavenly Father has never and will never forsake you. He is faithful and trustworthy in everything He does. If He seems quiet right now, rejoice in knowing He is working in your circumstances and continue to pray for clear direction and guidance. Your Father is with you, and He is working all things out for your good and His glory!
