Chosen by God

“After the death of Moses the Lord’s servant, the Lord spoke to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ assistant. He said, ‘Moses my servant is dead. Therefore, the time has come for you to lead these people, the Israelites, across the Jordan River into the land I am giving them. I promise you what I promised Moses: Wherever you set foot, you will be on land I have given you.’” – Joshua 1:1-3

As we continue to look at Joshua, I want to shift your focus. Over the last few days, we have talked about his faith and his obedience. We have looked at the legacy he left as a result of how he was so determined to honor God.

And while Joshua was obedient to God, I want you to see God’s role in Joshua’s life. First, God CHOSE Joshua. Joshua was a successor. He was chosen by God to lead His people. Joshua 1:1-3 says, “After the death of Moses the Lord’s servant, the Lord spoke to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ assistant. He said, ‘Moses my servant is dead. Therefore, the time has come for you to lead these people, the Israelites, across the Jordan River into the land I am giving them. I promise you what I promised Moses: Wherever you set foot, you will be on land I have given you.’”

Yes, Joshua was a slave that was able to turn his life into a lasting legacy. But that was because God CHOSE Joshua. As a believer in Christ, we are God’s CHOSEN people. He has handpicked us for a special mission. God had a purpose for Joshua’s life, and Joshua dedicated himself to living out that purpose.

I have good news for you today. Just like God had a special purpose for Joshua’s life, He has a special purpose for your life. God has CHOSEN you for a destiny only you can fulfill. Now, it doesn’t stop here. God gave Joshua a destiny. He chose Joshua. But Joshua still had to remain obedient. God has chosen you, so now it is your turn to obey Him and follow the purpose you were created for!
