“No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. For I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will not fail you or abandon you. Be strong and courageous, for you are the one who will lead these people to possess all the land I swore to their ancestors I would give them.” – Joshua 1:5-6
Have you ever felt the pressure of leadership? Like you have been placed with this responsibility, whether it be a job title, a position, or just by the influence you have over the group around you? If so, I want you to know you are not alone.
When God appointed Joshua to a position of leadership, He made sure Joshua knew that He did not have to go about it alone. Joshua 1:5-6 says, “No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. For I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will not fail you or abandon you. Be strong and courageous, for you are the one who will lead these people to possess all the land I swore to their ancestors I would give them.”
God told Joshua, “You are going to lead my people, but you are not leading alone.” Sometimes we feel the pressure of leadership, don’t we? We think, “I’ve got to do this, and I’ve got to do that,” but what God showed Joshua was that all he really had to do was listen to the Lord, trust the Lord, and obey His commands.
God reminded Him and said, “I am capable of claiming victory in your story. I am capable of expanding your territory and giving you this land. You are not fighting this battle alone!”
And you know what? Neither are you and I! You are not fighting this battle alone! You might feel all the pressure in the world, like everyone is looking to you and you have to make things happen. But God reminds us that no matter what position we are in, or how many people are following us, our job is to listen to Him, trust Him, and obey His commands!
