“No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. For I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will not fail you or abandon you. Be strong and courageous, for you are the one who will lead these people to possess all the land I swore to their ancestors I would give them.” – Joshua 1:5-6
If you want to have a faith-driven legacy, impacting people that come in contact with you, as well as others who might never have known you but have only heard stories…if you want to be a strong leader, someone who everyone looks to and trusts…then God has a command for you.
It is the same command He gave Joshua after putting Him in a position of leadership. God tells Joshua in chapter 1 verse 6, “Be strong and courageous, for you are the one who will lead these people to possess all the land I swore to their ancestors I would give them.”
Then He says it again in verse 7, “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do.”
He says it twice in back-to-back verses, “be strong and courageous.” If you are going to leave a legacy, one that will influence others for Christ, you are going to have to be strong and courageous. You are not always going to know where God is taking you, or how things are going to turn out.
You might worry at times. You might have fear. But that is exactly what courage is – the ability to go ahead even when you are fearful. To be strong when others are shaky and weak, you must lead them with strength. We have spent a lot of time talking about legacy, and if you want to leave one, you must obey God and follow His will.
Following God’s purpose for your life will not always be easy. But that is okay because He is with you every step of the way. Now be strong and very courageous!
