All You Need

“Each time he said, ‘My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.’ So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.” – 2 Corinthians 12:9

Have you ever given God an ultimatum? Maybe not in a threatening way, but maybe you have encouraged God to remove something from your life, something that you know is not serving you or benefiting you in any way. Perhaps you are saying, “Lord, I want to serve you better. If you would just remove this ONE THING in my life, I know I could be such a better follower and serve you better.”

This is what Paul was asking in 2 Corinthians 12. Paul begged God three different times to remove the thorn in his side. Though we do not know what that thorn was, we know it was something that Paul desperately wanted to be removed.

This “thorn” could be anything that is keeping you from living the life you want to live and that God wants you to live. You know that there is just one thing in your life holding you back. You might even pray regularly for God to remove it. And why wouldn’t you? It makes sense. If God removed it, you would be able to focus on Him and follow Him fully.

So why doesn’t He? 2 Corinthians 12:9 gives us the answer. It says, “Each time he said, ‘My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.’ So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.”

Don’t you see? His grace is all you need. Sometimes, God keeps that thorn in our lives so that we remember how much we need Him. When everything is going great, we can veer away and think that we have everything handled. God wants to remind us of our dependence on Him.

But even when we do have a struggle – our “thorn” so to speak – God’s grace is enough. You are not too far gone for Him. If He wants to remove it, He can do so. If He leaves it in your life, there is a purpose. Trust Him and rely on His grace to get you through this season. His grace is all you need!
