Trust and Obey

“Jesus replied, ‘You don’t understand now what I am doing, but someday you will.’” – John 13:7

When we were children, we were taught to pray: “God is great, God is good, let us thank Him for our food.” But when catastrophe strikes and bad things happen to good people, we begin to wonder: “If God is so great, why doesn’t He do something? If God is so good, why doesn’t He seem to care?”

Have you ever been at a place in your life where you just didn’t understand God? I’m talking about a place where you believe in God, but you just don’t understand Him. You don’t understand His decisions, you don’t understand how He could allow this or that. You don’t get His plans or His purpose.

Have you ever been there before? I think many of us stay there. We don’t understand the point of sickness and death. We can’t wrap our minds around God allowing poverty and starvation. We look around at suffering, pain, and loss, and most of us are left wondering…WHY?

Sometimes, we don’t get to know right away, or maybe even for a long time. But there will be a point when all is revealed. John 13:7 says, “Jesus replied, ‘You don’t understand now what I am doing, but someday you will.’”

See, God has a purpose for everything He does. It might not always make sense to us, but He is putting every piece in place. He is working all things for our good and for His glory. It is not our job to figure it out or to solve His methods. It is our job to trust Him and be obedient to His commands.

You might be in the midst of questioning God right now. And if so, that is a totally normal place to be. But when you are, remember, it is not for you to figure out. Let God reveal His will to you in His timing. Right now, it is only your job to TRUST and OBEY.
