Apart From Him

“Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.” – John 15:5

Over the last week and a half, we have talked about as believers, our identity is found in the One whom we follow. He is our source of life and the backbone of our identity. John 15:5 goes as far as to say, “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.”

That means not only is He our identity, but apart from Him, there is no identity for us. Apart from Him, you can do nothing. This means all your achievements, all of the things you have been recognized for, all the material possessions you have accumulated, He allowed it…ALL OF IT.

There is nothing you can do, nothing you can accomplish, nothing you can gain, that He does not bring into your life, or at the very least, allow you to have. It is by His grace that we can enjoy the rewards we gain on this earth. But make no mistake about it, apart from Him, you have nothing.

He allowed it, and He can take it all away whenever He wants. This does not mean He will. Your great job, the amazing home you live in, and the community you are now a part of…He might have blessed you with. You might be exactly where He wants you to be.

But make no mistake about it. It is nothing of your own doing, but rather it is a blessing from God. Don’t forget the source of all your blessings today. Take some time and thank God for His grace. Thank Him that though we mess up time and time again, He continues to love us and continues to bless us because apart from Him…we can do nothing.
