Humility is Power

“And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep His love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fulness of life and power that comes from God.” – Ephesians 3:18-19

If you want to accomplish your mission and shine like you were designed to shine, you need to be empowered. Paul knew this when he prayed to God in Ephesians 3. When Paul asked for power, he didn’t go high…he went low.

He didn’t stand tall and scream. He got down on his knees, and he begged God to strengthen the church with power in their inner being through the Spirit of God.

Ephesians 3:18-19 says, “And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep His love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.”

I’ve often wondered why Paul got down on his knees to pray that day. In Paul’s day, and even Jesus’ day, many people prayed while standing up. In that culture, you wouldn’t sit and pray or bend your knees to pray unless you were praying about something extremely significant.

And why would you get on your knees? Because it is a sign of humility. When you are praying, you are acknowledging who has the power and who is in CONTROL. The truth is, no matter how much you think you can control, God is actually the one in control of all things.

Everything that happens in your life is either created or allowed by God. All of it. When you pray, you are coming to God acknowledging that He is in control, and you need His help. It is only when you show this type of humility that you can access the power of God.

You can’t have it both ways. You can’t try to control everything on your own, think you have it all figured out, and rely on God. But once you show humility, He will help you. Humility is power!
