What the “Worthy Life” IS

“Assuming that you have heard about Him and were taught in Him, as the truth is in Jesus, to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.” – Ephesians 4:22-24

Recently, we have been talking about the “worthy life.” In Ephesians 4, Paul talks about living as though we are worthy of the calling God has placed on our lives. As believers, God has called us to a mission and purpose.

At times, that purpose might seem too great for us. We might not feel worthy. But that is exactly what Paul is telling us we are. And with that in mind, we are to live worthy of our calling. Yesterday, we talked about what the worthy life was not. Today, I want you to see what it is.

Ephesians 4:22-24 says, “Assuming that you have heard about Him and were taught in Him, as the truth is in Jesus, to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.”

Notice He doesn’t say, “You live the worthy life” when you KNOW ABOUT Jesus. He said, “You live the worthy life” when you KNOW JESUS. See the difference? Knowing about Jesus may change your mind, but only knowing Jesus will change your life.

Living the worthy life IS knowing Christ and pursuing His truth. It starts with breaking free from your old self and old ways. Then it is all about putting on your new self. But you can’t do that alone.

It’s not enough to just know who Jesus is. You can’t just know about Him; you must KNOW JESUS. As you grow in a personal relationship with Him, you learn His truth. And it is His truth that will lead you to live a life worthy of your calling.
