What Are You Holding on to?

“But that is not the way you learned Christ! Assuming that you have heard about Him and were taught in Him, as the truth is in Jesus, to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires.” – Ephesians 4:20-22

I want you to understand something. As I say this, I want you to really spend some time thinking about it…Do you realize that THE BEST version of your life happens when you live the life worthy of your calling?

It’s not just the best version for God (though it is), but it’s also the best version for YOU. Your life will be better than it’s ever been when you decide to live it the way God has called you to. So, what is holding you back? Or a better question…what are you holding on to?

It is often something we are holding onto that we know we would have to give up in order to live the life God has called us to. What Paul is saying in Ephesians 4 is to break free from your old self.

Verses 20-22 say this; “But that is not the way you learned Christ! Assuming that you have heard about Him and were taught in Him, as the truth is in Jesus, to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires.”

Don’t miss what he just said: in order to embrace your new life in Christ, you must leave your old self behind. Paul says we must BREAK FREE from our old selves!

You can’t leave your old furniture in the new house. He said the old furniture is corrupted. He said the old couch has the stench of your old way of life. So in order for you to embrace the new life that God has for you, you must be willing to throw that old furniture away.

What are you holding on to? It’s time to break free. God has better for you! But He can’t give you the new until you break free from the old!
