Resisting the Devil

“So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.” – 2 Timothy 2:22

Over the last few days, we have talked about letting go. If you want to step into the new life God has for you, it is going to require letting go of the things of your old life. Paul tells us in Ephesians 4 to take off the old and put on the new.

But HOW do we do that? You might be saying, “Pastor, I know I need to remove things in my life. I know there is something I am holding on to, that if I want to put on my new self, I will have to let go of. I get that. But HOW do I do it?”

That is a great question. How do you break free from your old self? It starts with resisting the devil. 2 Timothy 2:22 says, “So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.”

If we are going to resist the devil, we are going to have to be committed to FLEEING his temptations. The Bible says when we FLEE the devil and submit to God, the devil will then FLEE us!

James 4:7 says, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

Do you want to break free from your old self? You have to resist the devil. He has taken you hostage for so long. Just because you make the decision that you want to walk into a new life, doesn’t mean that the devil is going to concede.

He is going to continue to fight for your mind. But that is why we must resist him. James tells us that if we resist him, he will flee. Do you want to break free? Resist the devil. That’s where it all starts!
