Rich in Christ

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” – Matthew 6:19-21

Are you rich? When I ask that question, your mind probably goes immediately to how much money is in your bank account. You think purely about the numbers in the bank and the possessions in your home.

But that is not what being truly rich is. I’m not talking about material riches. I’m talking about being rich in Christ. Because when you are rich in Him, you will have everything you need. You will be fulfilled spiritually, physically, mentally, and emotionally because He will take care of you in every aspect of your life.

Matthew 6:19-21 addresses this when it says, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

What are you chasing? Are you chasing earthly riches that will one day fade away? Or are you chasing spiritual riches that will last long after this life is over? God has a plan and purpose for your life. If you follow it, you can be rich.

It might lead to material riches, or it might not. But I can promise you one thing, being rich in Christ trumps being materially rich every day of the week. Choose Him and find yourself rich in Christ!
