The Nature of God

“For His invisible attributes, namely, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.” – Romans 1:20

When you are adopted into God’s chosen family, you now have access to things others do not. At this point, you are not only made in the image of God, but you now have the NATURE of God, the SPIRIT of God, the PRESENCE of God, and the POWER of God.

Over the next four days, we are going to look at what it means to have each of these. First, you now have the nature of God. Romans 1:20 says, “For His invisible attributes, namely, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.”

To have the nature of God means to have His features. So what features does God have? Well, first we know God is LOVE. The nature of God is to love all people, regardless of how they treat you. Think about it. People sin against God every single day. Yet, He still loves them enough to send Jesus to die for them.

God’s nature is also to forgive. We just mentioned how people, even His children, sin against God every single day. Yet God still forgives them and gives them another opportunity, again and again. God’s forgiveness is endless, and He always gives His children a chance to return to Him.

God abounds with endless mercy and grace. Mercy is when He doesn’t give us what we do deserve, and grace is when He gives us what we don’t deserve. That is because it isn’t based on what we do, but it is who He is.

These are just a few of the features of the nature of God. As a child of God, when you accept Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, you begin to have the nature of God. As you grow and learn to imitate Jesus, you will begin to have His nature.

My hope is that, on your own, you will continue to study how Jesus lived and what His nature was like, and that you will pray that God would instill His nature into you. Do not strive to be like the world. Strive to be like the One you gave your life to.
