It’s a Relationship

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with Me.” – Revelation 3:20

Let me ask you a question. How often do you think about God as your Heavenly Father? Sure, we know that’s who He is and what He is often called, but do we actually spend time thinking about that idea?

The reason I ask is because when you really think of God as a Father, it will often change how you view your relationship with Him. Far too many people, even believers, have a false sense of who God is. They view God as a harsh judge ready to administer punishment from His throne.

But God is our Heavenly Father. And what He wants is a personal relationship with us. Though He can punish us, He is not just a judge on a throne. Though He can bless us with our deepest desires, He is not a genie in a bottle.

The God you serve is your Heavenly Father. And just like a father-son or father-daughter relationship, God wants to have that with YOU. Your relationship with God should not be transactional. It’s not, “I did good God, now you can reward me” or “God, I messed up and I know I deserve to be punished.”

Sure, there are consequences, both good and bad for our actions, but God wants so much more than that. When you think of your relationship with God strictly through consequences, you are missing it.

God wants you to spend time with Him, to get to know Him better. He wants to hear about everything that is on your heart. He wants to know your deepest desires, your greatest fears, your struggles, and your dreams.

How is your relationship with God? Are you regularly spending time with Him, getting to know Him better? Or is it completely transactional and based on consequences? That is not the relationship God intended for you.

He wants to grow His relationship with you. So don’t neglect spending time developing your relationship with God. It is the one relationship that can change your entire life!
