A Slave to Sin

“Jesus answered them, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin.’” – John 8:34

Genesis 3 tells us the story of when sin entered the world. But what I want you to notice is that the devil didn’t force Eve or coerce her… he didn’t have to. The devil can’t push you into sin, he can only persuade you to sin.

What happened in Genesis 3 is the devil persuaded Eve, she took a bite of the apple, and with that bite, sin entered the world, and Eve became a SLAVE.

In John 8:34, Jesus says, “Jesus answered them, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin.’” That is what sin does. It puts you in bondage with the devil.

Sin is addictive. You choose to start listening to gossip and it may seem harmless, but before long, you’ll look up and you’re no longer just listening, you’re participating… you’re now choosing to partake in the sin rather than flee the sin like Jesus tells us to.

That’s the way it works. If you choose to compromise your purity once and do things you shouldn’t be doing outside of marriage, guess what happens? That second time is right around the corner. The third time is waiting in the wings.

That is the way sin works. All sin is addictive. And once you start, it’s hard to stop. If you are just dabbling in a specific sin, I want to tell you now: RUN! GET OUT NOW!

Playing with sin is a dangerous game. It is easy to get down a bad road, really, REALLY fast. If you have experienced that, then you already know how hard it is once you are in it. But I have good news for you.

God can get you out. God can free you. That’s what He does! You do not have to be a slave to sin any longer. That is why Jesus died for you, to set you free from sin. Let Jesus set you free, today!
