Preaching in Vain

“And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain.” – 1 Corinthians 15:14

What if Jesus didn’t do what He said He would do? What if there were still bones in His tomb, and Jesus didn’t rise from the grave? What if Easter never happened? What if the story was that God created it, we broke it, and Jesus didn’t fix it?

Now, if you have been following along with us, or if you have studied His Word and believe Jesus is the Savior, that He died for our sins and was raised from the dead, then you know He fulfilled what He promised.

We know Jesus isn’t a liar. But what if He hadn’t done what He said He would do? What would it mean? Over the next week, we are going to answer the same question raises, “If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised…”

Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 15:14, “And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain.”

The word “vain” means “empty, with no purpose, a waste of time.” I’ll give you another word for vain…useless! Right here Paul was saying that if there was no Easter, we’re wasting our time being here today. If Jesus didn’t rise from the grave, all of us should be doing something else with our time here on earth.

If Jesus stayed dead, our proclamation is in vain, and our preaching is USELESS. Why? Because the heart of the gospel is “that Christ died for our sins, that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day.”

Without that, our preaching is in vain. If the resurrection didn’t happen, we ought to close the shop, sell all the church buildings, and do something else. But you know what?

We know Jesus did what He said, but that is how important it is that He did it! Thank God not only that Jesus died for our sins, but that He was resurrected because without it, this is all useless!
