Faith in the Waiting

“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him.” – Psalm 37:7

Waiting on God can be a challenging and sometimes discouraging experience. We eagerly anticipate the fulfillment of His promises, wondering when and how they will come to pass. In the midst of our waiting, the story of David serves as an inspiring example of how to build our faith and trust in God’s perfect timing.

David, the anointed future king of Israel, faced a long and difficult period of waiting before ascending to the throne. Despite the delays, David chose to trust in God’s faithfulness and purpose. He remained steadfast, seeking the Lord’s guidance and finding solace in His presence.

During those years of waiting, David’s faith grew stronger. He cultivated an intimate relationship with God through prayer, worship, and reflection on His promises. In the solitude of the wilderness, David learned to be still before the Lord, finding comfort in His unwavering presence.

David’s trust in God during the waiting season was not passive; it was an active choice to believe in God’s plan. He faced numerous challenges and opportunities to take matters into his own hands, yet he resisted the temptation to force the fulfillment of God’s promise. Instead, he relied on God’s timing and trusted in His sovereignty.

In our own lives, as we wait on God’s promises, we can follow David’s example. It is in the waiting that our faith is tested, refined, and strengthened. Rather than becoming restless or losing hope, we can choose to build our faith through prayer, studying God’s Word, and seeking His guidance.

While we wait, we can deepen our trust in God by remembering His faithfulness in the past. Reflect on the times when He has delivered on His promises and sustained us through trials. Recounting His faithfulness will ignite hope and remind us that He is faithful to fulfill His promises in His perfect timing.

As we build our faith in the waiting, let us remain patient and surrendered to God’s plans. Trust that He is working behind the scenes, orchestrating circumstances, and preparing us to receive His promises. Embrace the journey of waiting as an opportunity to draw closer to Him and grow in faith, knowing that He is faithful and His promises will never fail.
