Courageous Hearts

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:9

Courage is a word that stirs something deep within us, isn’t it? It’s not just about grand acts performed by historical figures like Harriet Tubman or Martin Luther King, Jr. It’s about the everyday moments where we find ourselves facing fear and choosing to push through it.

Think about it for a moment. What’s the most courageous thing you’ve ever done? Maybe it wasn’t leading a movement or saving lives, but it was something that required you to step out of your comfort zone, to confront your fears head-on.

Perhaps, like me, your mind wanders back to a moment that might seem trivial in comparison to those historical examples. For me, it was delivering puppies in a bathtub without gloves. Maybe for you, it was speaking up when others stayed silent, or taking a leap of faith into the unknown.

But here’s the thing about courage: it’s not just about the action itself, but the reason behind it. Why did you do what you did? What compelled you to step into that moment of bravery?

Here’s a truth I’ve come to understand: people who demonstrate great courage always have a good reason for doing so. Whether it’s out of love, duty, compassion, or a sense of justice, there’s always a driving force behind acts of courage.

And you know what? That same truth applies to you today, just as it has throughout history. Whatever challenges you’re facing, whatever fears you’re confronting, remember that you are not alone. The same God who commanded Joshua to be strong and courageous is with you, right here, right now.

So, as you reflect on your own moments of bravery, remember this: you are capable of more than you know. And whatever the reason behind your courage may be, trust that God is guiding you every step of the way.
