Radical Obedience

“Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.” – Daniel 6:10

Following God’s commands and being faithful to Him can be a radical journey—one that requires courage and unwavering trust. In Daniel chapter 6, we witness Daniel’s unwavering commitment to obedience, even in the face of opposition and potential danger.

Daniel’s life was marked by remarkable integrity and faithfulness, which earned him favor in the eyes of King Darius. Despite being elevated to a position of great authority, Daniel’s enemies sought to undermine him by exploiting his devotion to God. They convinced the king to issue a decree forbidding prayer to any god except Darius himself.

But Daniel remained steadfast. When he learned of the decree, he didn’t hesitate or compromise his beliefs. Instead, he continued to pray to his God, just as he had always done. His radical obedience stemmed from his unwavering faith in God’s sovereignty.

It’s easy to imagine the fear and uncertainty Daniel must have felt in that moment. Choosing courage and saying yes to God isn’t always easy—it can be downright scary at times. But Daniel understood something crucial: the safest place to be is in the center of God’s will.

When we live our lives with the understanding that God is in control, it changes everything. It redefines what it means to walk by faith. Yes, there may be natural fear that accompanies radical obedience, but when we trust in God’s promises and His providence, we can face any challenge with confidence.

Trust in God’s sovereignty, even when the path ahead seems daunting. Choose courage over fear and know that when you walk in obedience to God, you are positioning yourself in the safest place possible—within His will.
