THE HEART’S REFLECTION
“But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.'” – 1 Samuel 16:7
It can be so easy for us to focus on the external—the image we present to the world. We often put on masks and try to show the best side of ourselves to others. But deep within, where no one else can see, lies our true heart.
What’s inside your heart? This is a question worth pondering. In 1 Samuel 16:7, God reminds us that while people look at the outside, He sees into our hearts. He sees the motives, desires, and intentions that reside within us.
It can be tempting to put on a show, to appear righteous and admirable to those around us. But God isn’t fooled by external appearances. He knows the real you—the you that sometimes doubts, struggles, and wrestles with various emotions.
Take a moment to reflect on your heart’s condition. Are there areas where you need to seek God’s guidance and transformation? Are there hidden wounds, unforgiveness, or bitterness that need healing? Remember that God’s grace extends to the deepest corners of your heart.
King David, whom God chose to lead Israel, is a remarkable example. Although he had his shortcomings and failures, he was known as a man after God’s own heart. What set him apart was his willingness to turn to God in repentance and seek Him from the depths of his soul.
God desires a heart that seeks after Him. He longs for a heart that is genuine, humble, and open to His leading. It’s not about perfection, but about a willingness to let God work in us and through us.
