The Price of Sitting Still

"Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to the power at work within us." - Ephesians 3:20

You see the verse above, and your first thought might be, I want that. I want to see God do more than I can ask or imagine. But here's the catch most people miss. That verse isn’t a passive promise for bystanders. It’s a call to trust God enough to take the next step.

God is fully capable of doing beyond your imagination. He is not short on power. But His power is described here as “at work within us.” That means you can’t experience what God wants to do through your life if you are unwilling to move your feet.

We see that in Nehemiah. His story did not start with action. It started with a burden. He was bothered by something that mattered to God. The walls of Jerusalem were broken. The people were vulnerable. And that broke Nehemiah’s heart.

But he didn’t stop at being broken. He prayed. He fasted. He asked God what to do. Then, when God gave him the vision, Nehemiah got up and did something about it.

That is the point. Many people are waiting for God to do something, while God is waiting for them to trust Him enough to move. You might be praying for more in your life. For God to use you. To change your family. To impact your church. But if you are not willing to act on the vision God gives, you will stay stuck in place.

The difference between seeing a miracle and missing it is often just one step of obedience. Nehemiah could have stayed in the palace with a broken heart and a long prayer list. But he didn’t. He took the risk. He spoke to the king. He gathered the people. He picked up bricks and helped rebuild the wall.

So let me ask you. Where is God calling you to stop sitting still? What vision has He already made clear? What burden has He placed on your heart? The next move is yours. Will you stay where it’s safe or step out and see what God can do beyond your imagination?
