It All Belongs to Him

“You are not your own, for you were bought at a price. So glorify God with your body.” - 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

There’s a common phrase you hear all the time in our culture: “It’s my body, I can do what I want.” But if you belong to Jesus, that statement simply isn’t true. According to Scripture, your body does not belong to you. It belongs to the One who created you, saved you, and paid the ultimate price to redeem you.

When Paul wrote to the believers in Corinth, he was addressing a mindset that’s still popular today. People had separated their physical life from their spiritual life. They thought, as long as my heart belongs to God, it doesn’t really matter what I do with my body. That lie gave them permission to indulge in whatever felt good, and it allowed them to excuse all kinds of sin under the banner of grace.

But Paul didn’t let that fly. He reminded them, and he reminds us, that we were bought at a price. Jesus didn’t just die a symbolic death. His body was broken. His blood was poured out. He physically suffered and died on a cross to redeem your entire life, not just your spirit. That means your body matters. Your habits matter. Your lifestyle matters.

And here’s the key: if Jesus paid for you, then He owns you. That’s not something to fear; that’s something to rest in. There’s freedom in belonging to the God who made you and knows what’s best for you. Your surrender to Him is not a loss; it’s the beginning of real life.

Are you glorifying God with your body? Not just with your words or your heart, but with your choices, your rhythms, your discipline? He didn’t ask for part of you. He asked for all of you. And He’s worthy of it all.
