Our Vine

“Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.” – John 15:5

So, if our identity is in Christ, what does that look like? It’s great to say, “my identity is in Christ,”  but when it really comes down to it, what does that mean for us as believers? What does that look like in our lives?

John 15:5 sets out to answer that, “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.”

What does that look like exactly? It looks like a tree. We can go outside today, and I can show you thousands of trees. Trees that are thriving, growing, and blooming. And you know what every branch of every tree will have in common? They are all connected to a trunk.

Every branch needs a trunk. If the branch isn’t connected to a trunk, it cannot survive. Without a trunk, there’s no water, there is no nourishment, and ultimately, there’ll be no life for the branch.

In the same way, we are nothing apart from our vine. We are dependent on the vine to give us life. That is exactly what Jesus provides for us. Do you ever feel like when you pursue the things of this world and you finally attain them, you feel empty inside?

That is because the world does not give us life. The world does not satisfy. Only the vine can satisfy. And the vine is Jesus Christ. If you want to live a life of fulfillment, a life of purpose, and a life that ultimately achieves all that you were meant to on this earth, you need your Vine.

Allow Jesus to be your vine, and you will produce all of the fruit you were meant to! For apart from Him, you can do nothing.
