It Costs Your Time

“Search for the Lord and for His strength; continually seek Him.” – 1 Chronicles 16:11

So what is the cost of giving your life to Christ? We have spent the last few days talking about “being different.” As believers, you are called to live a different life than the average person. We are not meant to walk in the ways of the world.

Giving your life to Christ is greatly rewarding. It is a life that will be filled with blessings and honor if you will remain obedient to God. But that does not mean it comes without cost. If you are going to live for Jesus, it will cost you. Cost you what, you ask?

First, it will cost you your time. Being obedient to God requires knowing what pleases Him. How do we know what pleases Him? By spending time with Him! 1 Chronicles 16:11 tells us, “Search for the Lord and for His strength; continually seek Him.”

Giving your life to Christ is not just about having a fire insurance policy. You don’t just turn to Him to avoid hell. God wants a personal relationship with you. He sent His Son, Jesus, to die for your sins for that very reason, so that He could have a personal relationship with you…not just one day, but TODAY!

God wants a relationship with you NOW. But building a relationship takes time. If you want to please God and be obedient to Him, you need first must give your time to Him and get to know Him better!

How can you spend time with Him? Spending time in prayer and reading Scripture is a great start. Prayer is when we talk to God, and reading Scripture is how He talks back to us. Prayer allows you to tell God how you feel, what you worry about, and what your hopes and dreams are.

You can personally call on the God of the universe and He will listen to your every word. Then, to know what He wants from you, read His Word. This is where you will learn the heart of God and better understand how to obey Him.

If you want to obey God, it starts with a cost. And that cost is your time. God wants your time! How much will you give Him?
