Where God Put A Period

“Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, ‘Did God actually say, You shall not eat of any tree in the garden?’” – Genesis 3:1

Have you ever questioned God’s authority? Maybe He told you to do something. He made it really clear, but somewhere along the line, it got “fuzzy.” And so, you questioned what God said. Did He really mean…?

If you find yourself in that situation now or in the future, be extremely careful because God means what He says and says what He means. When the serpent showed up that day in Genesis 3 to tempt Eve, he had a very specific purpose.

Genesis 3:1 says, “Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, ‘Did God actually say, You shall not eat of any tree in the garden?’”

The serpent was talking to Eve for one main reason that day: to cast doubt upon the Word of God. Learn this about the devil: he’s a clever liar. The craftiest lies always sound similar to the truth.

That is how the devil works. Notice in this passage that the devil didn’t come to Adam and Eve saying, “God isn’t real” because he knew they knew God was real. He didn’t say, “God hates you” because he knew they knew God loved them.

In verse 1, the serpent took a different approach and asked, “Did God really say…” He began his conversation with Eve by planting a tiny seed of doubt. His intention was to put a question mark where God put a period.

Do not let Satan do the same to you. When God gives you a command, it is with a resounding period. It is not a question. It is not up for debate. When God speaks, He speaks with clarity. Do not allow the devil to tempt you into questioning God’s authority. Obey His every command. It isn’t a question. Whatever God says, He puts a period on it
