A PERFECT LOVE

“There is no fear in love; instead, perfect love drives out fear.” – 1 John 4:18

As we continue to look at the love of God, I want you to really do your best to comprehend just how much God loves you. While we are on earth, we might never be able to fully understand His love, but we certainly can try.

That was Paul’s prayer for the church, that they would be able to grasp and comprehend the magnitude of God’s love. What Paul knew was that if they could grasp it, they could live it. If they experienced the love of God, they would be able to demonstrate that love to others.

Yesterday, we looked into what the love of God really is. The first thing we discussed was that God’s love is a sacrificial love. God sacrificed His own Son so that we could know Him. There is no greater showing of His love than the fact that He would sacrifice His own Son.
But there is more. His love is sacrificial. His love is also PERFECT. 1 John 4:18 says, “There is no fear in love; instead, perfect love drives out fear.”

See, as imperfect human beings, we cannot fully understand this because our love is not perfect. Even when we love someone with everything in us, we still fail them. We still selfishly choose our own wants and needs over theirs. We still lie or betray them at times…not because we want to, but because we are imperfect and have a sinful nature.

But God’s love is not like that. God’s love is perfect. He never fails us, and He never leaves us. Maybe you are someone who struggles to trust others. Maybe you have been hurt one too many times, and you just can’t give someone else a chance…

You need to be loved, but you just can’t let anyone in because you know they will fail you.

God won’t. God will never fail you. Imperfect human beings love imperfectly. But God’s love is perfect. If you are in need of being loved (and we all are), and you just can’t trust others, trust God. Give your heart to Him. He will not fail you.

God’s love is perfect.
