HONE YOUR SKILLS IN THE WAITING

June 23, 2023

“Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through prophecy when the body of elders laid their hands on you. Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress.” – 1 Timothy 4:14-15

Waiting can often feel like a period of stagnation or unproductivity. However, in the eyes of God, the waiting season is an opportunity for growth and preparation. As we eagerly await His timing, it is crucial to use this time to hone our skills and become who He wants us to be.

God has uniquely gifted each one of us with talents, abilities, and passions. These gifts are not meant to lie dormant but to be cultivated and utilized for His glory. The waiting season presents an ideal time to invest in developing and honing these skills, so we can effectively accomplish God’s will when the time is right.

While waiting, we must resist the temptation to idly pass the time. Instead, we can actively engage in activities that will help us grow and prepare for the tasks God has assigned us. This could involve further education, training, mentoring, or gaining practical experience in our areas of calling.

Joseph serves as a powerful example of utilizing the waiting season to hone skills. While he was imprisoned in Egypt, Joseph did not allow his circumstances to define him. He used the opportunities presented to him to develop his administrative and leadership abilities. When the time came for God’s plan to be revealed, Joseph was ready and positioned to fulfill his purpose.

By investing in honing our skills during the waiting, we demonstrate our faithfulness and stewardship of the gifts God has entrusted to us. It is through this intentional growth that we become effective vessels for His kingdom. As we dedicate ourselves wholly to developing our talents, others will witness our progress and be inspired to do the same.

Let us remember that God’s timing is perfect, and our waiting is not in vain. Rather than allowing impatience or frustration to consume us, let us use this time to sharpen our skills, deepen our knowledge, and grow in our relationship with God. In doing so, we align ourselves with His plans and prepare to fulfill His purpose for our lives.
