EMPTY PROMISES

May 31, 2023

“Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” – 1 Peter 5:8

We have spent the last few days talking about the ways Satan will tempt you – how he will appeal to your physical, emotional, and prideful desires all to get you to sin against God. He is very tricky.

What Satan does to tempt us is hand out promises. The problem is that they are promises he can’t keep. But that’s the thing, he never intended to keep them. He just wants to seduce your lusts in the moment and appeal to your immediate desires.

That is why Peter tells us in 1 Peter 5:8, “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”

Listen, the devil’s temptations are no joke. He will put them on a silver platter, all dressed up and decorated real nice. What Satan promises will look very appealing. He knows exactly what appeals to your physical, emotional, and prideful desires, and that is how he attacks you.

But what I want you to understand is that no matter how appealing it appears to be, every promise from Satan is a lie. It is empty. He can’t deliver. He will tell you to give in to your physical desires. And while it might feel good for a moment, you will leave ashamed, guilty, and unsatisfied, only wanting more.

He will appeal to your emotional desires in all the ways you have been looking for. But it’s an empty promise. What you will come to find out is that it was only temporary, and now you have to pay the consequences.

Satan’s ways are never worth it. He gives empty promises that he just can’t keep. And you are the one left to pay for them. Instead, cling to God’s promises. Not only will God’s promises lead to blessings, but they will lead to the true fulfillment you are seeking.
