WALK TOWARD THE LIGHT

March 30, 2023

“For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.” – Ephesians 5:8

If you want to walk with Jesus, it starts by walking away from the darkness in your life. But it doesn’t stop there. Once you walk away from the darkness, you must actually walk toward the light.

Ephesians 5:8 says, “For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.” This is how we avoid falling back into the darkness that once held us hostage.

Every time I read this verse, for some reason, I automatically think back to the group of Chilean Miners back in 2010. Do you remember the story? 33 Chilean Miners were basically trapped underground and had to survive unimaginable conditions deep below the surface of the earth for two months. They were stuck underground in complete darkness for two months.

I recently read an article that was celebrating the anniversary of their rescue, and one of the miners, Mario Sepulveda, reflected on his rescue. He said, “On the way out, it was terrible. I screamed. I just wanted to get out. I just wanted to see the light.”

When I read that, I thought, you know, Mario will never forget that moment. He will never forget leaving that hole in the ground. And because of Mario’s experience in the darkness, he will forever have a new appreciation for the light.

The same is true for us, right? Paul said—you were once darkness (do you remember the darkness?) but now you are light in the Lord (do you remember how when He rescued you, changed you?)

Then God says, walk as a child of light. As a child of God, you have been rescued from darkness. Now, you can walk towards the light. Thank God that He is the light. Thank Him that he rescued you from the darkness and continue to make the decision each and every day to walk toward the light.
