You Are Blessed
"Blessed is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavens in Christ." - Ephesians 1:3
The Apostle Paul provides a powerful and concise answer to our questions about our identity: if you have been saved, your identity has been transformed. You are now in Christ. Paul also tells us that as followers of Jesus, we are considered saints in Him. Today, we’ll explore another aspect of our identity in Christ: we are blessed.
In Ephesians 1:3, Paul writes, "Blessed is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavens in Christ." According to the Bible, if you are a Christian, you are blessed. This goes beyond the superficial understanding of blessings that modern-day Christianity often promotes.
In our culture, the word "blessed" is frequently used to highlight personal achievements and material possessions. Social media is filled with posts boasting about scholarships, promotions, and victories, all tagged with #BLESSED. While it’s great to celebrate life’s milestones, Paul’s message in Ephesians points to a deeper understanding of what it means to be blessed.
Being blessed in the biblical sense is not about the physical or material accomplishments we can boast about. It’s about the spiritual blessings we receive through our relationship with Jesus Christ. These blessings are not dependent on our circumstances or achievements but are rooted in our identity as children of God.
When Paul speaks of spiritual blessings, he’s referring to the rich, eternal gifts we receive from God through Christ. These include our redemption, our forgiveness, the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, and our eternal inheritance. These blessings are far more valuable than any material possession or accolade because they are eternal and unchanging.
As believers, understanding that we are blessed means recognizing and appreciating these spiritual blessings. It shifts our focus from the temporal to the eternal, from the material to the spiritual. It reminds us that our true worth and identity are found in Christ, not in our accomplishments or possessions.
So today, remember that you are blessed—not because of what you have done or what you own, but because of who you are in Christ. Embrace this identity and let it transform the way you see yourself and the world around you.
