The Key to Freedom
“And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” - John 8:32
When you read this title, do you know what it means? Not only does knowing Jesus mean knowing the truth, but knowing the truth means experiencing true freedom. Jesus tells us that if we want to be set free—whether from our past, our present struggles, our sin, guilt, or shame—we need to draw near to Him. Jesus is the truth that sets us free.
Jesus identifies Himself as the Holy One, set apart, and the True One. He is not only the embodiment of truth, but He also holds the key that opens doors and grants us access. In Revelation 3:7, He introduces Himself to the church at Philadelphia as “the one who has the key of David, who opens and no one will close, and who closes and no one opens.”
What is this key of David? Isaiah 22:22 sheds light on this: “I will place the key of the house of David on his shoulder; what he opens, no one can close; what he closes, no one can open.” Isaiah refers to Eliakim, who was given the key to the palace, granting access to the king. No one could enter the king's presence without going through Eliakim.
Similarly, there is someone much greater than Eliakim who holds the key to the Kingdom of Heaven—Jesus. If you want access to the King of Kings, you must go through Jesus, the one who holds the key.
Jesus is the key that opens doors no one can shut and shuts doors no one can open. This means that when He opens the door to freedom, no past mistake, present struggle, or future fear can close it. Conversely, when He closes the door on your sin and guilt, nothing can reopen it.
Knowing Jesus means knowing the truth. Knowing the truth means experiencing freedom. This freedom isn't just theoretical; it's practical and powerful. It’s freedom from the chains that have held you back, freedom from the sins that have weighed you down, and freedom from the guilt and shame that have clouded your heart.
As you navigate your life, remember this: Jesus is the truth, and He holds the key to your freedom. Draw near to Him, embrace His truth, and step into the freedom He offers. When you know Jesus, you know the truth. When you know the truth, you know freedom. And that freedom is yours for the taking.
