A True Wardrobe Change
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control." - Galatians 5:22-23
Remember playing "dress up" as a kid? Maybe you dressed up as a superhero, a princess, or an army man. When I was young, my friends and I would play "Army Man," and the moment we put on our army gear, in our minds, we were real soldiers.
The battlefield became our neighborhood cul-de-sac, and the war felt intense. But then, Mom would call us in for supper, and as soon as we stripped off the camouflage, it was over. Playtime ended, and it was time for something else.
Just like we dressed up as soldiers, what we wear spiritually affects how we live. Paul tells us in Scripture that if we’re still wearing the sinful rags of this world, our lives are likely to reflect that.
The old clothes—bitterness, anger, jealousy, and selfishness—lead us to live like the world. But God has called us to something greater. He has called you to put off your old self and put on something new in Christ.
When you surrender your life to Jesus, He doesn't just tweak a few things here and there. He transforms you from the inside out. He clothes you in something new, and with this wardrobe change comes a new way of living.
God gives you spiritual gifts and the fruit of the Spirit to help you live the life He’s called you to. These aren’t just “nice qualities” to have. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control are signs of the Holy Spirit’s work in your life.
What are you wearing today? Are you still dressed in the world’s clothes, following the same old patterns of sin and selfishness? Or are you letting God clothe you in His righteousness and grow the fruit of the Spirit in you?
The wardrobe change that happens when you follow Jesus is real. He gives you new life, and with it, the ability to live in a way that reflects His love and purpose. Let today be the day you put off the old and fully embrace the new life He has for you.
