Gentle Giants in a Harsh World
"Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near." – Philippians 4:5
God designed you to be a gentle giant, not a weak warrior. His plan for you isn't to overpower or crush others but to carry His love and heart in the way you interact with the world. While some see gentleness as weakness, it's quite the opposite.
Gentleness is power held in check by love, strength that doesn't need to show off but offers calm and peace to others. Just like holding a small bird in your hand—you have the strength to crush it, but when you hold it gently, it finds rest. The world needs more people who understand this balance.
You may not feel like a giant in size or strength, but in the eyes of those around you, especially in moments where you can choose between harshness and gentleness, you can become a giant in the way you impact their lives. Just as I had to gently remove a bird stuck in the fireplace, our strength must be tempered with care.
If I had held that bird too tightly, it would’ve been crushed. If I had held it too loosely, it would’ve flown away in panic. But with gentleness, the bird rested calmly. This is what God calls us to do with those we meet.
The world around you is often filled with aggression. People are quick to defend their opinions, and if someone disagrees, they’re labeled an enemy. It’s a culture of crushing and winning at all costs.
But God asks you to be different. He asks you to respond with gentleness, even when others are aggressive. This isn’t about letting everything go or avoiding difficult conversations, it’s about engaging in them with a spirit of calmness and grace. Your gentleness can bring rest and peace in a world that desperately needs it.
