The Goodness of God’s Word

“Indeed, your judgments are good.” - Psalm 119:39

When you look at your life, how do you measure what is good? Is it by personal success, comfort, or maybe by how things appear on the surface? It's easy to rely on our own standards or the opinions of those around us. However, Psalm 119:39 offers a powerful reminder that God's judgments are what truly define goodness. It says, “Indeed, your judgments are good.”

Think about how often we rely on our own understanding and experiences to determine what is right or beneficial. We might think something is good if it makes us feel happy or if it seems to bring immediate satisfaction. Yet, God’s perspective is far broader and deeper than ours. His judgments are rooted in His infinite wisdom and perfect love, guiding us toward what is truly best.

Consider a time when you felt uncertain about a decision or a situation in your life. Perhaps you were torn between choices, each seeming to offer its own version of what is good. In those moments, the judgments of God’s Word provide a steady, unwavering compass. They offer clarity and direction when our own judgment might falter.

God’s Word is not merely a collection of wise sayings or historical accounts; it is a living guide that shapes and transforms us. It illuminates the path we should walk and reveals the true nature of what is good. Just as a compass always points north, the judgments found in Scripture always point toward God’s perfect plan and purposes.

When we align ourselves with God’s Word, we align ourselves with His goodness. This means embracing His definitions of love, justice, mercy, and righteousness, even when they challenge our personal preferences or societal norms. It requires us to trust that His ways, though sometimes counterintuitive, lead us to the best outcomes.

As you navigate through life’s decisions and uncertainties, remember to turn to God’s Word. Let it be your guide and standard. Embrace its wisdom and trust in its goodness. By doing so, you will find that God’s judgments not only lead you to a life of righteousness but also reveal the true essence of what is good.
