The Safest Place to Be
“So the king gave the order, and they brought Daniel and threw him into the lions’ den.”- Daniel 6:16
Living a life of radical obedience often comes with challenges and consequences, yet Daniel embraced this truth wholeheartedly. He knew that the safest choice he could make was to follow God, regardless of the risks involved. In doing so, he modeled what it means to live by faith, fully convinced that God is in control.
When you acknowledge that God is sovereign over your life, it transforms the way you navigate your circumstances. This understanding encourages you to walk by faith without hesitation. You realize that there should be no question about following His commands or remaining faithful to Him. Yet, let’s be honest: the journey of radical obedience is often filled with fear. Choosing courage and saying "yes" to God can feel intimidating.
Courage doesn’t mean the absence of fear, it’s the willingness to act in the face of it. When you decide to live courageously, you might feel your heart race or your palms sweat. Still, it’s essential to recognize that the safest place you can be is at the center of God’s will, even when that path leads to the unknown.
By the time of Daniel's story in the lions’ den, he was likely in his early 80s and had witnessed God’s faithfulness throughout his life. He had learned that God is trustworthy, even when circumstances appear dire.
When King Darius reluctantly ordered Daniel’s execution, he expressed hope that Daniel’s God would rescue him. Imagine the scene: Daniel was thrown into a pit designed for execution, filled with ravenous lions that had been starved and tortured to ensure their aggressiveness. Under normal circumstances, this was a death sentence.
Yet, these were not normal circumstances. Daniel’s radical obedience put him in a position where God could show His power and sovereignty. The king sealed the entrance, ensuring that nothing could change Daniel’s fate. But what was meant to be a final act of defiance against Daniel’s faith became the backdrop for a miraculous display of God’s deliverance.
When you face your own “lion’s dens,” remember that your radical obedience can set the stage for God to demonstrate His glory. It may be a daunting choice to follow Him, but each step of faith you take can lead to incredible outcomes. God may not always remove the obstacles or spare you from the trials, but He promises to be with you in the midst of them.
