Waiting with Peace

"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." - Isaiah 9:6

Some questions have answers that almost feel automatic. Growing up in Sunday School, “Jesus” seemed to be the answer to everything. Who’s your hero? Jesus. What’s the greatest gift you’ve ever received? Jesus. No matter the question, it seemed like “Jesus” was the answer. And for the most important questions in life, He really is.

Then there are questions with answers that everyone seems to agree on, like when a beauty pageant contestant is asked what they’d like to see in the world. Almost every time, the answer is “world peace.” That answer has become a cliché because peace is something we all want but can’t quite agree on how to achieve.

What does peace even look like? Some imagine it as a world without conflict or war, without hate or division. It’s a place where everyone is unified, where barriers are broken, and where we live in harmony.

Over the years, countless leaders have claimed they had the formula for peace, whether through treaties, financial aid, or diplomacy. And while these efforts are good, true peace remains elusive. No initiative or agreement can fully erase the human heart’s longing for lasting peace.

The Bible calls Jesus the “Prince of Peace.” This title means that real peace isn’t something we can create on our own; it’s something He brings. While the world might view peace as the absence of conflict, the peace Jesus offers is a peace that holds steady, even when things around you are anything but calm.

It’s a peace that allows you to wait, to trust, and to rest, no matter the circumstances. Jesus didn’t promise a world free of struggles, but He did promise His presence, His comfort, and His peace that surpasses all understanding.

So, if you find yourself waiting today, whether for a prayer to be answered, a season of life to pass, or a situation to resolve, I challenge you to wait with peace. Let go of the need to manufacture it or find it in external circumstances.

Instead, draw near to the Prince of Peace Himself. When Jesus is at the center, peace becomes more than a wish for the world, it becomes a reality in your heart. As you wait, let His peace fill you, anchoring you in the truth that He is with you and that, in Him, true peace has already come.
